I’ve been writing a Pirate themed After Action Report for the game Crusader Kings. It is, I would like to think, a humorous story built around the exploits of my Count and his family. Crusader Kings is a fun strategy game from Paradox Interactive which has the player controlling counties, duchies and kingdoms in medieval Europe. Check it out if you feel like some piratey goodness!

A most excellent wee game
Mount and Blade is an amazing little independent roleplaying game being developed in Turkey. It’s got the usual roleplaying bits and pieces along with a fantastic combat system which sees you charging around on horseback lancing enemies and slashing down foes, all this along side a massive private army you can hire and manage. Very good! Go try the demo.

As I pack up bunches of stuff and go through old stuff before I move I discovered this, the Ultima Online first phase (I think) public beta CD. This can be blamed for a great many hours playing many online games since the glory-days of July 1997.
On the other hand, it also got me at least two jobs and a couple of job offers! Thanks UO!

World of Warcraft
I once widely proclaimed that World of Warcraft (or WoW) would be a rubbish game because there was nothing new about it, nor anything exciting. Well, I was wrong! Very wrong! WoW has sucked me in and is currently chewing me up before digesting me in the belly of its gaming goodness. It is simply lovely.
It’s an MMORPG where everything is done right. It’s fast, fun, balanced and engaging. From beautiful art direction, to exciting adventure areas which draw you in and keep you coming back for more, to great game systems for characters, crafting and quests, this game has it all.
Really, one of the best games of the year!

Ubergeekdom!
In a fit of extra-geekyness I’ve bought EverQuest 2. I know I will love it for a week and then loathe it.. but what can you do? When the geek calls, I must reply!
Worse, since I will be borrowing World of Warcraft I will be officially playing FIVE games. WoW, SWG, HL2, EQ2 and of course, Second Life. Damn! Now that’s geeky!

Dominions 3 coming!
My new current favorite game, Dominions 2, is expecting a sequel. Kind of predictable really but still enjoyable. You can read the Press Release for some more info on Dominions 3.
If you haven’t tried the game yet you really should if you enjoy good strategy gaming. The best part is you can easily play it multiplayer either by email or by connecting to a server and playing your turn when you have some time. Very cool!
